Learning Outcome 1

Learning Outcome 1

While comparing my earlier work to its final draft, there has been growth with how I approach the revision and writing process overall. In the beginning of the semester, my writing process was very rushed and unorganized, with me often completing the drafts at the last second without leaving time for me to be able to make good and meaningful changes. Since I wrote like that, my earlier papers were very unstructured and lacked development as well as better language. However, with this class progressing, I started to understand the value of global and local revision. With the structure of the class having deadlines and a whole drafting process, I was able to slow down and take time with each part of the deadlines. With a few drafts of my chosen work sample, which is project 2, I was able to focus on global revisions like moving around my paragraphs, making my argument more concrete, and even strengthening my thesis. I was able to look at the picture as a whole and slow down to see whether my ideas flowed and even supported my overall claim I was making. I was also able to engage with local revision in which I paid more attention to the little, but big things within an essay. I focus on my sentence structure, word choice, and even my grammar. The peer review feedback however was especially helpful when they would point out certain sentences that needed more confirmation, or unclear transitions. I was then able to revise my paper again for a better clarify and even getting my true tone in it. This process has been able to show me how much stronger my writing has become when I am able to take the time to revise it. I have learned that writing is not just getting your words on the page and meeting the word count but refining and shaping the ideas so that they have a clear impact. My final project 2 draft shows a big improvement from my very first draft and then reflects my effort I have put into my work.
